The History of Limos

While major universities have not embraced the power of Wikipedia yet, for the sake of this blog I will consider it a credible source.

As it turns out, limos have been around forever. Hilariously enough, original limos had the driver sitting outside the limo with an overhead cover while the passengers sat inside protected from the climate. I suppose this hearkens back to horse and buggies.

"The word limousine is derived from the name of the French region Limousin, because this covered compartment physically resembled the cloak hood worn by the shepherds there."

So there you have it, the word limo is named after French hats.

The first coach builder, ie person who cut and stretched a vehicle, was some guy in Arkansas who stretched vehicles to drive around big bands affectionately earning them the name "Big
Band Buses."

Even the super old limos had certain hallmarks that we still see today. One of the biggest one is the partition, the driver has always been separated from the passengers and despite the massive growth in social equality, this artifact does not appear to be going anywhere anytime soon. That is fine. I wouldn't want to pop a bottle and have it spray all over the driver and then have him get in an accident.

And of course comes the shameless plug: book your party in New York or New Jersey in our party bus or stretch Navigator or stretch limos now, before partitions go away and popping bottles becomes too dangerous.
