I am reading a book called Crush It, by Gary Vaynerchuk. Although I am only about sixty pages in, I'm enjoying the book. This is coming from a man whose main source of reading is the New York Post sports section. If it isn't about the Giants I'm probably not going to read it.
He writes that a good way to start something on the internet is to use your passion. Capitalize on what you love and you can turn it into a business.Which got me thinking about what my passion is. And I'm still thinking! And thinking!
Isn't it a shame that there is nothing I can put my finger on and say I love doing this or that. I enjoy playing basketball, but there isn't much hope for a fifty six year old small foward who can't dribble and can't jump. I've never enjoyed fishing, too slimy. I keep thinking about golf but that is about it. I enjoy boating but my wife is afraid of the water, so my marriage comes first. And it's not that boating is a passion, I just love being near the water. I like bowling but never go. Movies I only watch when they are very old and come on TV. Sky diving, I don't think so. Bird watching, real exciting. Camping, if a five star resort is part of camping, then we're talking.
So you see my problem. Nothing to be passionate about. But wait, maybe there is. I do enjoy telling stories. I even thought that maybe one day I would write a book about my life and and all the people I have met. I have even saved boxes of crap going back to the begining of Perfect Limo. But, to be honest with you, it is hard to forget the good ones, because they are relly that good. I have had the pleasure of meeting some really great people and some really dumb people. Never the less, I think I would have plenty to write about. So, can this be my passion? Who would have an interest in my stories?
How do I get this blog to be read by more people? Does it just happen over time. What are the key words that get's me noticed. Should I put a sign in front of the Octagon House, (that's where my company is) that say's "read my blog". I forgot I need a permit. There I go again, thinking small potatoes, with a local sign. I need to go big time, worldwide. Facebook, Twitter and Linkedin, that is the way to go. Big time baby, watch out.
