Waiting

I don't want to sound like I am grumbling, but I will be pretty darn close to it. Oh, what the heck, I'm going to grumble.

Being in the limousine business, waiting is an issue. A big one depending on which side of the waiting you are on. If you are are a customer who is waiting for a car to arrive to take you somewhere, this is not good if the waiting is past the time you wanted for pick up. If you are a driver, and you are are waiting for a customer, this can good and bad. Bad, you may have to get somewhere else. Good, you get paid for waiting.

Now, the reason I am on this subject. I HATE WAITING!

Yesterday, I went to see my dentist for a cleaning and a check-up. Fanelli and Stefano in Rutherford. And once again, like a good little patient I arrived ten minutes prior to my appointment time. And as always is the case, I do not get called  until twenty minutes after my appointment time. Like always, I am greeted with a happy smile by the hygienist, my friend talks about old times, and all my anger goes away.

But why does this happen. I once asked and the tardiness was blamed on a previous patient. Most Doctors I go to say the same thing. So my suggestion would be, if any patient is late tell them to make a new appointment and bill them for the time. What do you think?

I had a colonoscopy done three years in a row. I've been given a three year break. The first time was at Nyack Hospital. First one in, on time no problems. Dr. Chang is my Doc. Second time in his office, somebody on his staff ran late, and held everything up by a half hour. Not that big of a deal. Third time, the person who was scheduled in front of me by an hour, came in at the same time as me. I had to wait an extra hour because of her. Now, if you ever had a colonoscopy, you know how hungry I am at this point. My blood pressure is normally low, but when they took it that morning it was through the roof. The nurse had the nerve to ask why it was so high. She got an explanation similiar to @#$%&*.

Years ago I used to get really bad migranes. I went to a specialist at Holy Name Hospital. I forgot his name, for now, but he had me waiting for him close to an hour. He said he was on a call with a patient who needed advice. Well, during the wait, my head started to pound. When I finally got in, he asked me "how you feeling?" Are you kidding me!

I do have to say though, he did help me. He got me to recognize all the junk that created my stress and headaches. So in the long run it was good.

As for my present physician, Dr Gil,he never makes me wait. When I have an appointment, I do not even get a chance to read the Sports Illustrated from April 2009 in the waiting room.I go in, I register, I'm in his office, boom.

Now, you know some of the tricks that are pulled on you. You show up on time, you sign in, wait a few minutes, you get called in and get escorted into an examination room. Slick, this is where you wait now. Somebody sticks their head in every few minutes to tell you it won't be long. And no magazines. They are just trying to build up your blood pressure so they have a reason for using the machine.

Waiting is everywhere, I can accept this. I don't mind waiting at my favorite restaurant, because this is fun. Sitting in traffic on my way to the the Jersey Shore. I'm fine with that, because I'm going for fun. But waiting at a Doctor's office is not fun. Sorry boys and girls. I know physicians spend alot of time and money on getting educated, but don't take it out on me.

Now back to my customer, it will not be fun for him, because while he is in the doctor's office waiting, I'm charging him waiting time. Sorry.
