What I Did Today

Today, I went to the WCBS Business Breakfast with Joe Connolly. This is not the first and it will not be the last time I attend one of these meetings.. I enjoy listening to what the speakers have to say. We had three interesting  presenters this morning: Jeff Vanderbeek of the New Jersey Devils, Neil Savage of City Grid Media and Art Ferrara of Ferrara and Company.

Connolly was funny when he introduced Vanderbeek, saying how, as an employer, he is one of about a hundred companies (football, baseball, hockey, etc.) that can trade their employees. Could you imagine. Instead of firing people, which I'd rather not do, you can just trade with another company. I'll give you two regular licensed drivers for one Class "B" licensed driver. And I'll throw in a reservationist.

Not real, is it? I tried.

Savage was good. Before he started City Grid which helps you with building sales and advertising solutions, he sold Yellow

Page ads. He said he was amazed that people would only spend 10 minutes putting togehter a telephone book ad that will be published for a year and spend thousand's of dollars. Ten minutes, because they are too busy.

Now we have the internet. This is a wonderful thing. But you have to be careful. Everything you write or say is now seen by ALOT of people. And in most cases, you don't have a second chance. Oh, you can dispute stuff, but the damage is already done.

I keep thinking about the politician, Weiner, and his photographs on Twitter. What were you thinking? Brett Farve? What were you doing?

Remember the day when you were walking down the street, and you tripped? You knew you looked stupid, and you went into that little run to pretend you didn't trip. Oh, how embarrassing that was.

Now think about that woman at the mall, who was walking and texting at the same time, and she fell into a water pond. You thought your trip was bad, what about her? She was all over You Tube for a week.

Now, back to the good of the internet. You can  communicate with anybody today. Facebook has opened up a whole new world of communication. I just have to find more things to say. Although, everybody has somebody on their Facebook page that just does not quit. You know who they are? You want to take them off, but then you are are afraid you might miss the one important thing they have to say.

I feel like I am babbling right now, but what the heck, I am filling space.

Off the beaten path. My guy who maintains my vehicles just informed me that a center cap on one of  the hubcaps for my Party Bus is missing. We had the bus parked at the Courtyard Marriott in Montvale because we are paving our lot. Looks good, too! But the center cap! This sucks. Two nights ago, a driver was at the airport and one of our brand new sedans was keyed. You know, scratched, damaged. Whatever, it still is not right.

Anyway, the internet. Advertise on it if you own a business. This is the way to go. And you are are not locked in for a year. So, you can spend ten minutes on an idea, because you can always change the context It is okay. "Do over". Remeber that?

If you ever get an opportunity to attend one of these WCBS Breakfast shows,  you have to make sure you get there. They are very informative. The networking part, before the actual breakfast, is good, but it is also 7:30 AM in the morning. Really, do you have your best sales pitch working? And as a consumer, are you really listening?
